What is the Legislative Youth Tour?

The 2018 Legislative Youth Tour is sponsored by Steuben Rural Electric Cooperative and is available to students who reside in a home serviced by the Cooperative.  Qualified students who apply have the opportunity to participate in an exciting trip to Washington D.C. from April 7-11, 2018.  The selected student will join representatives from the Cooperative in meetings on Capital Hill with Congressmen and women as part of the annual National Rural Electric Cooperative Association ("NRECA") Legislative Conference.

Students will also have the chance to enjoy a tour of Washington D.C. with other student representatives from other New York State electric cooperatives.

Participating in the Youth Tour is an awesome way to learn about this great nation, develop leadership skills, gain a better understanding of electric cooperatives, and make friendships that last forever.  Download the Legislative Your Tour Application.  All applications must be received in our office by the end of day on Wednesday, March 7th, 2018.

Kendra Ellison of Campbell was selected by the Cooperative's Board of Directors to be the Cooperative's 2018 Legislative Youth delegate.  Kendra is the daughter of Clifford and Katheryn Ellison III of Campbell.  As a youth delegate, Kendra accompanied the Cooperative's Board of Directors to Washington, D.C.  She joined representatives from New York's other rural electric co-ops in meetings with local and state representatives and their staff to discuss issues that are important in rural America.  Kendra was one of four students in New York State to have received this honor.

Kendra stated, "I had an action packed stay in D.C.; I enjoyed the Newseum and seeing the cherry blossoms at dawn.  The night time tour of the monuments was exceptional.  In addition to these wonderful events I was able to attend a play at Ford's theater and a Washington National's professional baseball game.  I am grateful to have had this opportunity and look forward to sharing my experience with others".
